The basis of Acupuncture is the insertion of extremely thin needles at specific points on the body. It is an integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with a history of over 2 millenia (over 2000 yrs).
Chinese Medicine views the body's health as a delicate balance of life force, creating equilibrium between the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects. Acupuncture is used to facilitate balancing this life force (Qi/Ki, pronounced 'chee'), by activating points along meridians or energetic pathways throughout our bodies tissues and organs.
Western scientific thought believes acupuncture points can stimulate nerves, muscles/connective tissues and can have a homeostatic effect of regulating hormones including endogenous pain killers such as enkephalins, endorphins, and cannabinoids.
Regular acupuncture can assist in building a healthier capacity to cope with both external and internal stresses of daily life.
In the following video, Acupuncture Professional hosts a talk with Matthew Bauer, president of Acupuncture Now Foundation, about the ins and outs of acupuncture treatments, effects, and outcomes.
